Education Programs

We share a strong conviction that education is the antidote for much of the malaise in a developing country such as Ethiopia. It seems to us that there is no better time than now to act on our aspirations. We are ready to put to use our best skills and talents; to help create a dynamic integrated educational opportunities based on a broad performance arts program. 

Lul productions will have the following multifacted aims;i

I.          Produce a broad range of dual language (English &/or Amaric) theatrical performances.

II.          Bring together Western and Ethipian performance arts traditions.

III.        Create opportunities that makes full use of existing Ethiopian arts, culltural and historical institutions.

IV.          Offer hands-on learning experiences, utilizing classical apprenticeship method of repertoire theater, in all aspect s of theatre production and management. f

V.          Provide a program of educational experiences in an array of areas withint the field of theatre for youth and adults.

    Lul & kids, nurturing the future

This component of Lul is focused on developing future theater practitioners. This includes, actors, dancers, singers, scene designers, administrators et al. This outreach program is designed for children/youth ages 12 - 18. Students will be exposed to the culture of theater and its multifaceted disciplines. The lul kids performance arts program will utilize an apprenticeship method and avail to Ethiopian children an English language emersion environment where they will not only begin to speak English but also become familiar with the theater speak. In addition, students will be given the opportunity to develop their talents in a variety of areas. These areas include, acting, stagecraft, stage design, costume design and construction, make-up, marketing, and administration.

Auditions are held throughout the year on the first Saturday of each month, at 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Written application must be submitted one week prior to live audition/interview.
Decisions will be made by lul administration and there will not be an appeal process.

An applicant is entitled to resubmit his/her application the following year. Junior lul students are expected to commit ten hours a week after school for rehersals, classes, and other duties. Reminder: Lul actors must maintain a B level or better grades in their regular schools. The first class size will be 10 - 12 students.

Lul admission policy
Any child between the ages of 12 – 18
Prior experience in acting not required.
Demonstrate a commitment to self-development, and desire to learn.
Students are required to maintain an excellent standing within the rigorous and training program.  Applicants must have a minimum of 'B' grade in their regular schools.


No child will be turned away because of financial hardship.
