Lul Academe program

Lul Academe strives to meet the needs of  the highly diverse community in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This educational program is primarily focused on the performance arts although it's aim is to expand the limits of the arts and culture as a whole. To this end, it will attempt to facilitate a wide range of artistic expressions.  Lul Academe offers the following educational program.

Lul Academe will offer three major training courses and workshops throughout the year.  These studies are; theater craft, dance and cultural preservation series. Course description  are listed below.

Performance Studies -

Theatre Craft

Intensive course for actors, directors, designers, technicians and playwrights interested in script development with the participation of international theatre professionals. Develop new scripts and performances in a multicultural environment under the supervision of a theatre faculty member.

Dance

Exploration and performance of expressive dance and movement. Includes development of an original choreography for public performance. Course is for advanced dance, acting and directing students with varying experience.

We are currently developing Lul theatre Summer academe. This program will be structured so that it can be approved for U.S. university credit. All the venues are tentative and can be relocated, etc.  This plan is to present a variety of plays and adaptations to several different associations, linking Western-style theater to an international audience.  As the operating language is English, this will draw a wider net of creative collaborators into the Ethiopian theater scene. This is the reason why Lul Teater will start with a foundation of Drama Classics (shows.vtheatre.net/2010).  There will a large component of this program dedicated to developing and creating original works, by partnering with local playwriters, directors and other performance professionals.  Below are a few working ideas for proposed productions, to be produced with the Lul Teatr company and/or Lul Teatr Summer Academe.

Cultural Preservation Series

Lul cultural preservation program is focused on fostering greater appreciation for Ethiopia's esteemed history and culture. The program's long term goal is to stimulate  interest, entice the imagination and foster greater knowledge and appreciation for national as well as local histories. Thereby creating the means and ways for young  people to pursue these and similar fields  of study in the future. This program will develop projects engaged in identification, collection and research of written and oral history for the purpose of disseminating this valuable information to the public in a variety of accessible forms. These projects will fall into two major categories;

a.            Significant events in Ethiopian History

b.        Life-histories of men and women whose lives were dedicated to the service of their country.

This project will attempt to identify events as well as individual life histories  which are unknown in the annals of Ethiopian written history. The primary aim is to inform the general public at large and the youth in particular.  Production selection of biographies will be based on a broad criteria and will include persons  from all walks of life, who have exemplified their generation by their true commitment to their profession and/or vocation. - Thereby their lives  can be formidable role models for present and future generation.

Workshops, classes

By means of a series of workshops and classes, Lul cultural preservation program will

1.          Publish biographies of Ethiopian historical figures.

2.          Produce short documentary videos.
